The Apprentice Pillar. Standing at the southeastern corner of the Lady Chapel, this pillar represents the Tree of Life (Yggdrasil). At the base, eight dragons sprout coiled vines from their jaws, carrying divine sap upward along a triple spiral to the ceiling vault.
The 213 Cymatic Secret Cubes. Protruding from the stone arches are 213 carved cubes decorated with geometric relief patterns of dots and wave shapes. In the 2000s, composer Stuart Mitchell and his father Thomas advanced the celebrated reading that these correspond to Chladni cymatic patterns — the geometries sound draws in sand upon a vibrating plate — and transcribed the sequence into a playable medieval hymn, The Rosslyn Motet. Scholars still contest the cipher; the stones keep their counsel.
Over 110 Green Men. Carved throughout the chapel are over 110 Green Men faces sprouting foliage from their mouths, symbolizing the eternal renewal of nature and Celtic vegetation rites.
