Founded where the Vltava River cuts a sharp serpentine bend through limestone bluffs, Prague (Praha, meaning 'threshold') was foretold by 8th-century Slavic shamaness Princess Libuše: "I see a great city whose glory will touch the stars. Build it at the threshold of the river, where man meets mountain."
In 1583, Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II moved the Imperial Court from Vienna to Prague, converting Prague Castle into Europe's principal sanctuary for Hermetic philosophy, Kabbalah, alchemy, and astronomy.
Rudolf II financed the royal observatories and secret laboratories of:
- Dr. John Dee & Edward Kelley: English Hermeticists who conducted Enochian angelic invocations at the House of the Two Golden Bears.
- Johannes Kepler & Tycho Brahe: Astronomers who calculated elliptical planetary orbits (Astronomia Nova) from observations made at Hradčany Castle.
- Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel: Kabbalist creator of the Golem of Prague at the Old-New Synagogue (Altneuschul).

The Palindromic Timestamp of 1357 9/7 5:31. Emperor Charles IV, guided by court astrologers, laid the bridge's first stone at an exact palindromic astrological moment: 1357, July 9th at 5:31 AM (Sequence: 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 9 - 7 - 5 - 3 - 1).
The Solstice Sunset Axis. On the Summer Solstice sunset, when viewed through the archway of the Old Town Bridge Tower, the setting sun descends directly into the apse of St. Vitus Cathedral on Castle Hill, precisely where the relics of St. Wenceslaus are buried.
The 30 Baroque Statues. Added in the 17th century, the 30 statues along the bridge parapet form a spiritual gauntlet framing the crossing over the Vltava.
Built in 1410 by clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and astronomer Jan Šindel, the Orloj represents the Hermetic universe in perpetual motion:
The Astrolabe Ring. Tracks planetary hours, sidereal time, and Old Bohemian hours.
The Zodiacal Ecliptic. A gold sun hand moves around an eccentric inner zodiac ring to show the sun's position in the celestial houses.
The Four Moving Allegories. Death ringing his bell, Vanity admiring his mirror, the Miser clutching his purse, and the Turk shaking his head — the four fates flanking the dial, set in motion each hour.
Built into the northern wall of Prague Castle, these 16th-century miniature houses are assigned by legend to Emperor Rudolf II's royal alchemists (Athanor Laboratories) — the archives record castle marksmen and goldsmiths, but the lane has kept its golden name for four centuries, and Prague has always trusted its legends over its ledgers. House No. 22 sheltered Franz Kafka through the winter of 1916; No. 15 is shown with the furnace crucibles of the transmuters' craft (Aurum Potabile).
Completed in 1270, the Altneuschul is Europe's oldest active synagogue, its early Gothic twin-nave vaults borne on two great octagonal pillars. According to Prague Kabbalistic lore, Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel created the Golem out of river clay from the Vltava, animating it with the sacred name EMETH ('Truth'). The sleeping Golem's remains are said to lie sealed in the synagogue attic.
Perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Vltava, Vyšehrad ('Upper Castle') is Prague's oldest mythical citadel. The Romanesque Rotunda of St. Martin (11th century) and the Devil's Column (Čertův Sloup) mark ancient telluric energy lines where pagan Slavic priestesses conducted sky-watching rites.
